Saturday night at their annual winter gala, the 2013 London Runner AAP Team was formally announced. In its 3rd year, the AAP carding program will double in size, due in part to increased support thanks to new sponsor New Balance London, who will join Runners' Choice, New Balance, and CBI Health as partners in this initiative. A line-up of 9 athletes was announced, with room to expand even further in the spring.
The program is divided into 3 tiers: Development, National, and Elite, each of which include different qualifying standards and levels of support. Leading the charge in 2013 are the 3 Elite athletes:
*Canadian Championship medalist over 10,000m and the Half Marathon
*ranked top-10 in Canada over 3,000m, 5,000m, 10,000m, and the Half Marathon
*represented Canada at the Bolder Boulder 10k
*Canadian Junior Championship medalist over 1,500m and 5,000m
*ranked #1 Junior in Canada over 3,000m and 5,000m
*represented Canada at the World Junior Track & Field, NACAC Cross Country, and World University Cross Country Championships
While representing Shaftesbury Barnet under coach Mike Baxter:
*ran personal best times of 2:03:07 (800m) and 4:21:20 (1,500m)
*placed 8th over 1,500m in UK Championships/Olympic Trials
The program will also return all 2012 carded athletes, all of whom ran personal best times in their main events in 2012. Over the winter, these athletes will have a strong presence at local events such as the Really Chilly road races and the Downtown 5k, both part of the London Honda Race Series.
