Following a successful summer, the London Runner Distance Club has started their Fall season with athletes training towards Goal Races that include the Ontario and Canadian Cross Country Championships, elementary, high school, college, and university school Championships, the Canadian 10k Championships, and the Chicago, Columbus, and Toronto Waterfront Marathons. Most of the London Runner members will participate in a mixture of Road and Cross Country racing, including London Honda Race Series events such as the 47th annual Hardick Chiropractic Centre Springbank Road Races on Sunday, September 7th.
This Sunday, 7 members of the London Runner Distance Club will compete in the Rock the Road event based out of Masonville Place. Sub-master Jeremy Walsh will be the lone representative in the 5k race. 6 club members will compete in the Rock the Road 10k, with all 6 recently being announced as part of the Elite entries. Roughly half of the Mens Elite field is composed of London Runner Distance Club members. Junior Seth Marcaccio is the youngest of the group and will be putting his local road race win streak on the line. Josh Morrison and Adam Stacey both ran strong 5k races in April at the McFarlan Rowlands Downtown 5k, and will look to translate that success to the 10k road distance. Kyle O'Neill will round out the Mens squad; with an excellent 10,000m personal best of 29:53.39 from the 2014 London 10,000m, O'Neill will look to improve on his 5th place finish at the 2013 Rock the Road 10k. On the womens side, 3-time Canadian Champion Leslie Sexton will 'come down' from her Marathon training to compete over the 10k distance. Sexton will be joined by teammate Courtney Laurie, who is now in her second year with the club.
Runners interested in joining the London Runner Distance Club are encouraged to try out workouts this month either at Gibbons Park (Tuesdays at 6pm) or Weldon Park (Saturdays at 10am). Membership and Coach contact information can be found here. The Minor Program, coached by local teacher and 2:27:40 Marathoner Matt Suda, will start up on Saturday, August 23rd. The Youth Program (ages 11-17) is already underway, coached by Runners' Choice employee and 1:13:13 Half Marathoner Leslie Sexton. All post-secondary programs are also underway, under the watchful eye of Head Coach Steve Weiler. Following a very successful Fall of 2013 in which the club placed 3rd overall at the Ontario Cross Country Championships and had 2 members qualify for the Canadian Cross Country team, the LRDC coaches are very enthusiastic heading into this season and look forward to competions both in London and abroad.
